Parental Roles
Even though students are reaching new levels of independence as they begin the logic stage of learning, it is still vitally important that parents stay an active part of their child’s educational process. In the logic stage, parents continue parents continue their role as a tutor on home days. Some specific duties that a logic stage parent can expect to be responsible for include:
- Check homework and explain how to correct errors
- Aid in research: finding reliable sources, organizing information, note-taking, citation, etc.
- Read novels or textbook assignments with students if the student is struggling with comprehension
- Assist in editing writing assignments
- Initiate conversations about topics being discussed in class
- Assist with projects and presentations
- Teach students how to correctly use technology
- Help students with organization
- Monitor student learning and identify any areas of concern
- Communicate with teachers when questions or problems arise
- Obtain a private tutor if a student is struggling in a particular subject outside the parents’ expertise
